Golf

Extracurricular Curriculum Guide - OIS

Once considered a sport for the elderly or elite, golf is now seeing a resurgence with young people due to the new generation of 20-year-old superstars such as Matthew Wolff or Victor Hovland – considered role models by many. Advantages to playing are that: golf brings a sense of community, is an opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors and can be played whether it be rain or shine. The game is designed to be played by men and women, young and old, and is a perfect fit for ONE International as children can learn it here and then play with any or all family members at the weekend or during holidays!

Football Squad

ONE International’s football sessions are run by Mrs. Lindgren, an experienced football player and coach who will encourage your children to play as part of a team and enable them to participate in inter-school competitions!

Arts and Crafts

The Arts and Craft sessions are run by Mrs. Collins and Miss Hoggard and allow the students to express themselves in both group and individual projects, which are exhibited around the school grounds. The activities are designed to promote: fine/gross motor skills, visual processing and creative skills with some of the products being available for sale at our school events. Group work engenders: co-operative working, discussions and democratic decision making – all vital skills in enabling globally competent individuals.

Swimming (Beginners)

All swim classes are taught by the wonderful Mr. Emfat in one of Atmosphere’s beautifully maintained pools with EFR trained staff providing additional supervision. Beginner classes are an introduction to water safety and swimming for children from the age of 3 years. Children will have great fun as they learn the necessary basic skills such as: blowing bubbles through the mouth and nose, front and back float, as well as the beginning arm and kicking movements for freestyle.

Swimming (Intermediate)

All swim classes are taught by the wonderful Mr. Emfat in one of Atmosphere’s beautifully maintained pools with EFR trained staff providing additional supervision. Our Intermediate Swim Classes are where children will build on their previously learnt skills and become more adept at moving through the water. Children will learn: independent freestyle side breathing, develop their backstroke technique and will be introduced to breaststroke beginning with frog kick skills.

Swimming (Advanced)

All swim classes are taught by the wonderful Mr. Emfat in one of Atmosphere’s beautifully maintained pools with EFR trained staff providing additional supervision. During Advanced Swim Classes, swimmers continue developing freestyle and backstroke techniques as well as increasing endurance. They will learn the complete breaststroke by adding arm and breathing skills and be introduced to butterfly stroke. Once competent in these skills they will move on to: focusing on improving technique and gaining endurance as well as developing competition skills such as starts, turns, and streamlining.

Sports Club

Sports Club is available once a week and is run by Mr. Silot, qualified in Sports Development and a well known personal trainer. The activities are designed to support the development of healthy physical habits and encourage exploration and engagement with unfamiliar sports. Through participation in physical activity, the students have the opportunity to enhance their skills in: leadership, teamwork, problem-solving, critical thinking, responsibility, self-discipline and initiative, all of which are intrinsic to becoming not only a good sports person but also a potential future upstander.

Kyokushin
(Japanese Martial Arts)

Kyokushin (極真) is a style of stand up karate, founded in 1964 by Korean-Japanese Masutatsu Oyama and is rooted in a philosophy of self-improvement, discipline and hard work. Kyokushin training consists of three main elements: technique, forms, and sparring. These are sometimes referred to as the three “K’s” after the Japanese words for them: kihon (basics), kata (Imaginary forms of fight), and kumite (sparring). The Kyokushin classes at ONE I.S. are run by Ms. Jeanith Adlawan who comes highly recommended and is qualified as a 1st Dan Black Belt. Her focus elements for the program will initially entail teaching the students self-discipline and development of their stance, kicks and punches, before progressing onto the more advanced skills.

Mini Rugby

Rugby sessions at ONE International are run by Mr. Holder and Mr. Hornung. Rugby is a team sport that we at ONE I.S. believe has not only significant health benefits, but also encourages the children to develop fundamental social skills, such as: tolerance, leadership, concentration, determination and, of course, how to deal with success and defeat graciously. It is a physically demanding sport that requires an understanding of how to play safely, therefore we strive to provide a positive, safe and enjoyable environment whereby ALL players can reach their full potential whilst having fun with their teammates and coaches.
